CLASSIC AGE ATLANTIS

Likely enough we already know what kind of civlization Atlantis developed, since Plato widely spoke about it in the Critias. In accordance with it Atlantis was a civilization skilled in workin metals, sailing and architecture. For example they built a huge grid of canals in their plateau. Canals were very big (up to 180 m wide) and long up to hundreths of kms. The capital city instead was a little more small (some kmq) but more complex since it was ringed by circular canals divided by land rings. These rings were linked by bridges which were over the canal were ships could sail.

Inside the city there were houses, religious temples and even racecourses for horses. The buildings had red, black and withe stones. The first two kinds could be of volcanic origin. Plato wrote some words about the temple of Poseidon which was very  big and beatiful. It was adorned of gold, orichalcum and silver everywhere, rich of statues and always evolving since each king used to add some ornaments and embellishements. Inside the gold gate that encircled the temple there was a coloumn of orichalcum were the laws of Atlantis were cut out. The walls which encircled the rings were covered respectively of copper, tin and orichalcum from the outer circle to the centre of the city. We do not know anything about Atlanteans' knowledge in cosmology so that we can't compare it to the one of other known civilizations. anywya Plato described the holy sacrifice of the bull that was really similira to Minoic's one. Atlantis' development degree was likely similar to the one of this last cvilization, tand so loto of people like comparing them. They were both skilled in navigation and able to use sources of cold and hot water. We know Minoans just from its ruined buildings and paintings since we are not able to read a parte of their language. The few translated texts were unuseful registers of contability .

However we like raffiguring Atlantis like a civilization skilled in manipulating metals and stones, by which they built all. Gold and copper glitters in the roads and palaces giving to Atlantis a kinglike appearance.
