Given what we now know about long-distance trade and contact, it's not unreasonable to suppose that the ancient Egyptians would have had histories describing a South American empire. And looking at satellite photos of the Straits of Gibralter (and the neck of the Mediterranean leading to them), it is striking that they point to the southwest, not due west. It'd be interesting to examine maps of the Antiplano during the last glacial period -- before the big melt, how much of that area could be farmed? A place to look for corroboration of your theory: genetic analyses have been done of the North American native peoples, to infer when they split off from the Asian population. (There turn out to have been at least 3 waves across the Bering Straits.) If Atlantis was in central South America, and if some of them survived to mix with later peoples, then a careful genetic analysis of the Incan descendants should show traces of an earlier population -- one that split off from the Old World much, much earlier. You're unlikely to start a geneticist going based on your theory, but perhaps he can be persuaded to reconstruct what information he can about the ancient Incas, including their dates of arrival in the New World... One unresolved inconsistency you didn't list, and that should at least be mentioned, is the text saying that the sunken Atlantis created muddy shallows that are not navigable. (There is also the oddity that the text calls the Atlantic Ocean unnavigable.) Any idea what this might be about? Or was it added later, to discourage explorers from sailing out in search of the sunken island? ("You can't get there from here.") |
